I suspect this might be a misread, or an assumption that I’ve extended a bit too far. RG’s rant around false shadow work and what not, is reasonable.. and I share the rants.. but the rigidity around it, I’m sensing and feeling out as part of his shadow. Pitching to people that shadow work is supposed to be uncomfortable, it’s horrible, and it sucks.. Did he really consciously think out this selling point? Or is it some sort of personal injunction of trying to force himself to endure more pain??
Shadow doesn’t have to be that hard.. and framing it as ‘the shadow’ already adds this mysterious ghosty type flavor to it.. it adds mystique that’s not really needed… (Oh I think he sorta addressed same observation in his rant video)
People DONT have to actively do shadow work… that framing is counter-productive… shadow work is always happening.. I could argue evidence for this counter framing.. but that doesn’t even matter.. as you don’t need to manage or understand shadow work.. it’s happening at levels before cognitive thinking or EGO involvement..
The intellect and ego, gets in the way of shadow work with coping strategies and ego defenses… that’s a more accurate way of describing the process…
and in a sense… our zoom meetings include lots of shadow work, as blind spots are exposed in real time.. and the recordings allow people to see theirs and others shadow and brings it to conscious awareness… no need to harp on about how shadow work sucks and is supposed to be uncomfortable… shadow work happens naturally as you get seen by others in more intimate and collective interactions…
Everyone needs more shadow work because we’re all isolated, atomized, and hiding behind online avatar masks… not enough external reflection and exposure to external perspectives…
