WARNING - ALL SPOILERS!!!

I’m finally getting to some interesting stuff, watching episode #4 of 6…

but… ghad… the acting.. the story… the character (non) development… it’s so stupid in so many ways… but it is netflix, so maybe my expectations are too high…..

I was going into this with some idea that there’s all this manipulation or mind games going on… I suppose Adele is the one who could be devious, and that unfolds in the final episode…

But… David… if he’s a therapist, shouldn’t he be a bit more skillful with language, words, psychological mind games? or not need to drink his sorrows away…. so many gaps in his backstory and character development.. and maybe a bit one dimensional….

Adele is all mysterious and eventually the surprise is that it’s really Rob’s spirit that’s in her body… that will be a nice twist.. but there could be some backstory of how he’s adjusting to being in a female body, and how he kept appearances up for such a long time…..

and maybe that’s why David & Adele are so far apart emotionally… I still haven’t gotten to any story of how their marriage started and why it’s so cold now….

Louise I suppose is the most developed character… her isolation and loneliness is a nice mirror to how many people are struggling under pandemic isolation… the night terrors are a bit of a mystery in origin, video flashbacks were laughable… was it a childhood trauma? inherited/genetic thing? Why is it involving her son? if it scared off her past bf’s and husband.. then the night terrors would’ve been about something else…

The whole love triangle thing is quite far fetched…. how’s she managing to both sleep with the boss, and be best friends with his wife…. that extra time is supposedly because Adam her son is away in France for a month.. ok.. sure, and that makes it perfect timing for the affair, and sudden new friendship….

Now I’m at the point of seeing her lucid dreaming skills? or will this become astral travelling?
oh.. and the 2nd door… will this be some sort of magic?

I suppose the flashbacks to Rob & Adele’s relationship is the most complex of the show… but then that somehow twists into stealing her body… that would be a surprise twist, as he’s being portrayed as worshipping her… and being so indebted to her…

oh… her black eye thing.. it was nicely played later on w/ the patient and to elicit sympathy and doubt around David… but I thought she got it by accident cuz she was trying to get drugs… but that was a quick short section that maybe I wasn’t paying much attention to….

… so there’s limited manipulation going on… though I’m guessing Rob might be the master manipulator at the end… and so far not that scary.. but they can increase that the final 2 episodes….

now onto finishing ep4…

(apologies for the rant… I’ve made special effort to watch a long tv series for a mental escape, and I’m getting this really need to suspend my disbelief type of show)

Finally getting some details and reveals….

Saw Adele astral travel and spy… now I’m watching a really stupid fight between David & Louise… He finally found out about her friendship with Adele… and wow.. he just fired her… lol..
But, it’s because she said that he has control over all her money….

now she’s breaking down and crying… this is kinda funny.. how stupid this is…. now she’s quitting at the office..

oh… the big boss calls it a hiatus…. that leaves the door open.. blah.. is she gonna breakdown some more?

Rob seems like the most believable and genuine character… the dual astral travel scene was so silly…

Why is David so pissed off through the whole show? and why drinking so much?

Starting to get some backstory with flashbacks of Rob, Adele & David first meeting…

oh.. I sorta can see that maybe David noticed Adele disappeared after the body switch…. but still.. why then drag out the marriage for 10 years?? and if Rob suspects that David’s knows Adele is different, why wouldn’t he plan something better?

And Louise losing her job…. no income? no job search… tons of time to pursue this side research.?

The music choice doesn’t always match the scene.. or exaggerates it for no particular reason?

yes.. I own that my expectations were way too high for this show.. but a lot of this is just so painful to watch… granted I’m guessing people are just starving for something to watch, and there’s probably much crappier stuff out there in comparison… so this might be different enough to be entertaining.. or just a mental escape..

The big expectation fail though.. is that I was expecting mind games and manipulation… so far maybe it’s Rob sorta doing it, but if he can astral travel, and see what’s going on.. that makes it a whole lot easier to manipulate others…

2nd add on edit:

Louise pieces the astral travel together with Adele/Rob travelling and setting everything up…. and they close with final words.. ‘Oh, You LYING Bitch!’ then a shot of Adele and fade to black, music… That’s a good cliff hanger/hook.. I’ll give the credit for that..

Still.. the whole love triangle thing where Louise was so enjoying her life with both sleeping with David, while being BFF with Adele… that wasn’t that long ago, and now this shift.. that’s a bit of a giant leap… I suppose, that just shows how amazing Adele was at manipulation?? harhar.. still not believable…

Ummm yes it is kinda stupid! But at the same for me was entertaining seeing them trying to explain filmically something I’ve lived.
i know how I can filmically reproduce the effects, you understand gensynch? Spacial locking of camera coordinates in time? Well imagine the background is being developed at a laggy frame rate, that freezes and catches up, and you move physically faster that you can generate in real life, but when you sleep, you no longer are slowed down by the world but your mind, you fight to generate at the highest speed, but you can only swim with it, everything swims into procedurally generated environments. Perfectly smooth, no glitching. No out of step laggy awareness. Dreaming can feel more real than real life because it is all smooth.
but in real life, my vision is impaired, with movement and warping that swims in my periphery. And sometimes the world has to catch up to me. The movement can make me sick, or sometimes I loose touch with reality and things zoom in or out.
that’s what it’s like to be schizo active - yet undiagnosed because, after all, what would they do to FIX ME when I use this to escape?
i realize now that astral projection is a learned habit, I lived with all my life, and it’s difficult to drop. I don’t want to do it anymore. It’s too cerebral and trapped in the past. It burns me out

I was trying to work on an update email, but can’t get into the mood yet…. maybe the mental escape might get something going??

I suspect a bunch of reveals, back end loaded.. and then over…. already sorta know the formulaic style of sloppy tv show writers…. do a bunch of leaps to get end of story,…. happily ever after for who? probably Rob? (oh I did research spoilers and already scanned through final episodes..)

Starts off with Louise going into full investigation mode… and desperate..
yay.. backstory… why did David & Adele leave the last place…

this lady is describing him as charming?? how come none of that showed on the screen? plot hole.. yah… there could’ve been more chemistry between David & Louise in the first episode…

ok.. wow.. they’re starting the twists fast… Adele goes to her house and tells her to stop talking to her husband… I suppose that’s a bit paranoid… BUT.. this is a different MO than what she’s doing with Louise which makes it less believable.. but it is kinda cool to see her more calculating and evil now…

She kept talking to David… and escalated more.. by suggesting to him that if he was miserable then he should leave her…. WTF??? This is so fucking stupid… he’s a therapist??? DUHHHH? couldn’t he find other people to get advice from, and practicing therapists in the USA often regularly see other therapists to help process and keep them on point (though not all do).. and starter therapists often have a advising type veteran therapist to help them learn the ropes…

lol…. Adele escalates with ransacking her home and writing slut on the wall…. and even more in your face rings her doorbell… and gives a knife back to her!! wow…. badass… yayy…. Why didn’t they show this side of her earlier????

…. then again.. if I want vicious killer woman… I can just watch Killing Eve… I still have season 3 that I could watch… that show had some stupid gaps, but it was entertaining and that psychopathic killer, amazingly cold…

ok.. flashback to younger David… and talking to Rob… everyone’s more lively in the flashbacks…

lol… this is so silly… david & adele with so much PDA in front of Rob.. and then having sex… while I’m guessing Rob will astral travel and watch? more sillyness… and Rob gets so surprised that he wakes up from the astral travel?? come on.. why would he be surprised?

David tells Louise Rob is dead… then flashback and fast music… but so slow with details…. they’re hooking our attention…

ohhh.. here’s that eye color shift… they zoom into her eyes …. this is the switch to green… the hidden clue that it’s Rob inside… no longer light blue…

ok.. some sort of heroin overdose? her story went by a bit too quickly… now young David is all tortured and in shock…. nice add on that she dropped his watch down the well… ohh.. rewatched that part.. he overdosed on purpose… oh.. then she did that watch add on…

that’s a goofy way of telling a story of how Rob died… lots of gaps there.. and her pleads to not call the police is flimsy… and redirect to them being together.. and I love you… also silly..

lol…. now David is manning up and finally tell the truth and clear his conscience… but leaves Louise with final warning.. stay away from Adele…. (not gonna happen!)

telephone stand off… Adele calling out Louise.. and explaining astral travel….

“…with me gone. I was your friend Louise” (ostentatious display of vulnerability, suicide threat totally thrown out into the air)

I did that sorta same close with the BPD medium life reading before she hung up on me…

rushes to the house and it’s on fire… and she breaks in, again? opps… can’t figure out the door…

so instead.. she’s going to astral travel to figure out another way in?? that is totally idiotic…. just break a fucking window…

ok… now even more stupid… go up to her room and then somehow now switch bodies…. tv show is running out of time so giant gaps are totally ok now… audience is hooked for the ending… doesn’t matter how idiotic things get now… ughhhh

wow… final moments… she goes up and finishes it off right in her face. AND in the midst of the house burning away…. right in the nick of time escapes the house with her OD’s corpse? why do that extra step?

…. then they skip all the after burnt down house part.. police, hospital.. etc.. and jump to Rob getting used to Louise’s body and picking Adam back up….

now link back to David? and final flashback to original switch between rob & adele? the final twist… the whole story has been all about Rob..

har har… with excerpts of Rob’s past moments of always wanting it (and implied planning it all)….

but they leave a loose end of Adam… very quickly noticing how mom is different… that’s a nice teaser for a to be continued…..

If you’re looking for way better character development- look for doctor foster on Netflix also. Theres some pretty dark and twisted codependency blindness there, of which I’m thoroughly GUILTY. the darkness is what fascinates me, seeing it played so viscerally and manipulative. You wanna be kept on the edge? Watch doctor foster. The ambivalent lying and twisting on both sides is fascinating.

for a messed up codependent family… This Is Us was so amazing and well written.. plus tear jerker… I think I’ve got at least 2 seasons I haven’t watched yet to catch up with…
it doesn’t have that overt evil manipulative narrative.. but more the passive manipulation of codependents trapped from fucked up childhoods with abusive or narcissistic parents… and how they pass on codependence into their future relationships and children…

finished up my commentary on the episode 6 in prior post… it was an okay escape I suppose… I felt free to analyze and criticize all the stupid story holes and what not…. extra time consuming, commenting while watching and eating…. but I suppose I can see how binging movies or tv shows can be addictive…

I’m amused and curious why you think Dr foster is better though? I saw a LOT of gratuitous sex in it… Enjoyable… But gratuitous… Also amusing how they constantly baited the audience… Making them think she was about to do something TRULY cRAzY… But she stays pretty in control… It is not entirely air tight… But enjoyable.

Fryek acting crazy is tough. People throw the Word around a lot. In Behind her eyes I didn’t like Adele from the start. I even thought she was sort of pussy in the mental home. Then I thought, ok the reason why I don’t like Adele is because I see myself in her - but I’m not that fucking smart. I’m just the pussy that she was in the mental home.
doctor foster is super smart, (supposedly) comes off as crazy. And yet, again, I saw myself in her, but this time forgave myself for being a pussy. I mean seriously she’s a doctor and has no financial control? I feel validated 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have zero financial Control and it’s my own pussy stupidity codependancy. Sometimes I need to see crapola played on the screen to witness myself and go… juliana you stupid bitch, don’t do that!

FOR A COMPLETE DISTRACTION and comedy. I decided to watch ““prank encounters” on Netflix by that kid from stranger things.
IT WAS FUCKING HILARIOUS. A 20 minute episode autopsy on how gullible people are. How it takes a huge team of actors, props and pranks, to analyze how the victims of the prank can get sucked into —-
A TEDDY BEAR MURDERER ((comes to life)
AN EVIL PLASTIC SURGEON KIDNAPPER.
the situations they create are so bizarre and crazy, yet the victims get sucked into the belief this whole fantasy is real. And I am DYING like this is how narcissists are playing the game in real life, enjoying the prank. It’s scary how people get so sucked in. And incredibly FUNNY too. The nice thing is, I can stick an episode on in the background while I work.
watch the cold empathy build up, the seeds of paranoia. I’m dead 🤪☠️

Demi and her closest confidants give a firsthand account of the aftermath of the overdose as she wakes up in the hospital after being minutes away from death.

Looks like it’s mostly around her overdose, but feels a bit murky with clips from multiple people around her who all seem to be in some level of being in the dark, along with Demi too…. she’s officially diagnosed as bipolar, but her songs describe a lot of BPD inner world… lots of mental illness from both sides of her parents, with her dad abandoning the family and having schizophrenia and bipolar diagnosis, along with abuse history.

Ahh…. everyone is trapped by her drug addiction… she’s in control, and rest of people in the dark and co-dependent in the traditional sense, co-addicts, helpless to her addiction.

ok.. finally got to some meaty details at the end of episode 2.

Demi: I’ve had my fair share of sexual trauma throughout childhood, teenage years.
And when they found me, I was naked, I was blue.
I was literally left for dead after he took advantage of me.

And when I woke up in the hospital, they asked if I had had consensual sex.
And there was one flash that I had of him on top of me.
I saw that flash and I said yes.
It actually wasn’t until maybe a month after my overdose that I realized,
“Hey, you weren’t in any state of mind to make a consensual decision.”

And it doesn’t go away in the first few months of rehab, either.
You know, that’s something that sticks with you for a while after because all of the daddy issues that I’d had growing up,
now I was literally discarded and abandoned.
That amplified all of my dad stuff.
I’ve realized a lot of my past traumas came to a head that night,
but at the end of the day, I’m responsible for my life choices and hold only myself accountable.

And the last two years have been about me doing the work to identify and confront those traumas
so I can be my best self and truly be happy.

Feels like this might still be a bit of a performance going on? The cover story is just barely enough to explain it and give an inkling of hope. But so vague.

ok, I watched the earlier documentary and that has more of her family background, childhood path, and rise to stardom, along with earlier drug addiction and recovery. With a bit of excess feel good celebration at the end, which is ironic that it was released and then a year later she has a worser overdose..
More traits of BPD extreme behaviors in this documentary… able to manipulate others, wild mood swings, can’t be alone without acting out or some addiction… weird that so many comments are saying she’s so brave, when that’s not her story, I suppose sharing the story could be seen as brave, but in these 2 documentaries she’s putting on a front… controlling her image very precisely.. or the documentary director is framing it that way…

This interview from 1 year ago, shows a bit more of a real side and more hopeful sign of progress… though she still gets triggered easily by what others say, but now ‘sets boundaries’ by telling and asking others to change their language.. I’m not sure how healthy that is long term… she has switched to talking more realistic instead of trying to brainwash herself with fake affirmations..

Switched to Better Call Saul season 5 a little easier to jump in as I’ve seen prior 4 seasons along with all of Breaking Bad.

This is about manipulating the legal system, criminals, ethics, morals, drug war, etc. A bit sensationalized for cinematic effect, so dunno how educational it will be for relationship manipulation. But it’s got pure entertainment value, it’s a very complex interweaved story, with complicated characters.
